Corn Glean

Hey Food Fight Team!

Healthy Roots Gleaning Program is searching for volunteer to help glean sweet corn at Pomykala Farm in Grand Isle this Monday morning, the 21st, from 9 until noon. Our gleaning program works with Franklin and Grand Isle county farms to capture high quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, and redistirubte the produce to the emergency food system. Our recipient sites include food shelves, soup kitchens, community meal sites- any place serving food insecure populations in the northwest corner of the state. The corn is sweet and delicious, it is just getting a bit too big for the farmer to sell at market.

We will be working outside for 3 hours, so we ask volunteers to dress appropriately with clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. We will be harvesting, weighing, and labeling corn- lifitng upwards of 40 lbs. If you are interested, please reach out to Hannah our Gleaning Specialist at [email protected]. If you would like to register online, sign up on to recieve updates when gleans are happening in your area!
