Are you naturally detail oriented, able to interpret complex language, and have experience working with farmers? The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets has a new and unique opportunity for one individual to join our Produce Safety Team. You will be able to apply your communication skills, farm experience, and flexibility to conduct inspections of produce farms in the state of Vermont. This position is dynamic, with work varying seasonally and as the produce safety landscape changes.
This position entails regulatory, educational and enforcement work at an entry level for the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets involving the inspection of agricultural products including produce. Duties involve ensuring producer adherence to state and federal laws and rules pertinent to the production, processing and packing of produce and other agricultural products. Incumbents may be assigned to a geographic area, but may also specialize in inspection duties which require them to perform duties statewide. Incumbents also maybe cross utilized to assist in other areas, such as Extension Community Accreditation for Produce Safety (CAPS) or USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) inspections. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Consumer Protection and in collaboration with multiple managers and internal and external colleagues.

Bachelor's degree in an agricultural or science-related field AND at least one year of experience in produce production or inspection work, or in working with the produce community or in a related field;
High school graduation or equivalent AND at least two years of experience in produce production or inspection work, or in working with the produce community or in a related field.
