Summer intern with Laroua

We are two UVM alumni with backgrounds in Anthropology and Nutrition starting a food business collecting bee larvae, a waste product from an organic method of pest management for beekeepers, and processing it to distribute as a food product. We envision an established market for bee larvae that is supported by chefs who are advocates for sustainable, nutrient-dense food sources. This would create an additional revenue source for Vermont beekeepers who manage their hives organically as well as recognition for their efforts from conscious diners.

We are looking for an intern to work with us beginning in May until August for 15 hours a week (however these dates and hours are flexible). The intern would be exposed all aspects of the business, including pick-up from beekeepers, processing, and delivery to chefs (we will reimburse for gas). We especially need help processing the larvae from the comb, managing our presence on social media, and being involved in research related to the use of bee-larvae as food (cultural uses, food safety, nutrition, sustainable business models and market analysis). This is an ideal position for someone that has strong communication skills, enjoys problem solving, is self-driven and has an interest in developing a sustainable business model for food sourcing and distribution.
